Today we played in the final four for of the French Cup. . . We lost 1-0 to Montpellier and it hurts.
Do I think they were a better team tonight?! Yes. However, it does not help that their only goal was off of OUR mistake.
Or that I hit the bar three different times (twice with my head and once with a shot)
Orrrrrr the fact that I am writing this on my right side because I think I have a fractured rib on my left.
Let’s just say the center back of Montpellier, also the starting center for the French team, quickly reintroduced me to American Football. I still don’t know how I walked away with a yellow card and she didn’t.
Literally I (already) have bruises in places where I did not think were possible for a match. . .
Ex: On the backside of my right shoulder blade it looks like I have gotten beaten!
With all that being said, maybe that can help explain why 12 hours later I am still lying here wide awake.
Gosh how I hate when this happens
(I hope other footballers can relate)
I know it’s a fault of mine, but I can’t help and take it personally when we lose. Bottom line is that it is my job to put the ball in the back of the net. When that does not happen the weight can be felt.
The lovely catch 22 of an attackant.
The game has been replayed, at least, 3 times in my head.
Lord knows I hope 5 will be the final number. . .
ON A LIGHTER NOTE:
The last two weeks in France have been “Vacances” for a lot of the girls.
The way it works here:
Almost all of the girls have another job. A teacher, boutique worker, student, etc. The good news with that is the amount of vacation time here is ridiculous.
For example the teachers schedule is 6 weeks on/2 weeks off. That does not include the 5 weeks of Holiday they get upon that.
Crazy I know.
(Well unless you play for Lyon, who is the only ALL Professional team in France and maybe in Europe. Meaning EVERY player on that team just plays foot)
Sidenote: I can’t help and think that this system would work in the US. The problem (personally speaking) is that the WPS thought too big too quickly. It takes time, patience, and really embracing the “grass roots” system.
With being blessed to play in different countries of the World and knowing many women that play there, we all know they have the same system. Give or take.
For example there is a reason why the women’s teams are partnered with a men’s. There is a reason why they CHOOSE to work to be able to play soccer. There is a reason why so many World Women Footballers fought for the American league to stay around.
It might sound harsh, but open your eyes folks. . .
To play just foot has been amazing, but honestly I would prefer to work a couple hours.
Meaning: if you gave me a choice to continue playing my dream in the US but on the condition I would have to work in the day, FINE!
Bring it on. . . I get to finish each day doing my dream, how can I ask for more?!
Sorry about that.
But anyways, with most of the girls working through the season it has been really nice to be able to spend some time with them outside of the field.
One of my favorite days was heading to Disney Land. I will proudly admit that we somehow ended up spending 12 hours there ha
Yep, space mountain 3 times, tower of terror 2 times, Aerosmith 2 times, and some fun with Buzz lighter
I will miss these girls. . .
